Getting
Involved
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is a Community Site Practicum
in which students can participate each academic quarter. All
University of Washington Health Science and Information School Students
are encouraged to consider this educational opportunity to learn interprofessional
collaborative skills as well as working with and learning from students
from the Health Science professional schools.
Students will have the option to obtain credit for their participation
at the ARC. Students can enroll online for the Uconj
444 after receiving an add code
from the ARC faculty preceptor, Michaelene Kedzierski who can be contacted by
email at: kedzm@u.washington.edu.
Practicum Course Overview (ARC)
• Interprofessional
collaboration as Board Member
• Increased understanding of community involvement and professional
interaction
• Beginning skills for facilitator role
• Increased understanding of working with clients as integral part of health
team
• Personal understanding of addiction, recovery and codependency
• Identify some of the characteristics of alcohol or drug addiction
• Describe the patterns of use associated with the addictive process
• Discuss the discuss the characteristic roles of family members, friends
and/or co-workers
of addicted persons
• Identify enabling behaviors in the family or workplace of an addicted
person
• Describe the recovery process and the variables that affect rehabilitation
• Providers of Health Information
• Increased knowledge of health topics and needs of people in recovery
• Understanding of the Self-Care Model of Health, specific to recovery
• Increased computer skills (PowerPoint/WEB sources)
• Increased skills in presenting information to large/small audiences
• Socialization toward Professional Development
• Increased understanding of systems/organizational approach to care
• Meeting needs of multiple groups (organization, students, beneficiaries)
